Rafting

Going down.....Raftabout, Rotorua White Water Rafting Raftabout The Kaituna (meaning Eel Food) Grade 5 boasts the highest commercially rafted waterfall (7 metres) in the world. In fact, there are three waterfalls among the 14 rapids, two smaller waterfalls to practise on before attacking the 7 metre drop named Tutea Falls. This was the site of the first hydro-electric power station to supply a township with power in New Zealand.

In amongst beautiful, clean and green New Zealand lays a great deal of Maori history, and the area is renowned for the tribal wars of the past. Behind and around the waterfall exist caves used for the hiding of women and children, and later the burial ground of Chief Tutea. These are now the homes of millions of glow worms. There are many Maori myths and legends associated with this river known to the locals as Okere (waterfall).

Trips run 9am, 12noon or 3pm daily (flexibility for groups). Allow 3 hours.

Raftabout has a private river base with full amenities and private access to the river. This is 50 metres North of the Okere Falls bridge on State Highway 33.
